Introduction: the origin of the Gender Equity Education Act
 
  According to Article 6 of the Gender Equity Education Act, the school shall establish a gender equity education committee. The Act came into being from a boy's death. (The following story is summarized from Wikipedia [Traditional Chinese]: Yeh Yong-zi [葉永鋕])
 
   Yeh Yong-zi (April 20, 2000), male, was a 9th grader in Gao-Shu Junior High School in Pingtung County. In the morning of April 20 in 2000, after he left the classroom to the toilet, he was found unconscious and bloodied on the ground and died soon afterwards in the hospital. His death is believed to be involved with his gender temperament, and has profoundly influenced gender equity education in Taiwan.
 
   Yeh's case highlights the campus violence perpetrated upon students of gender temperaments different from social expectations; this has induced legislators to rename the drafted Sex Equity Education Act into the Gender Equity Education Act, with clearly defined wording: "…shall not discriminate against… on the basis of his or her gender, gender temperament, gender identity or sexual orientation."
 
   The Gender Equity Education Committee of National Chengchi University endeavors to achieve campus-wide gender equity in various fields to cultivate NCCU faculty, staff and students and thus prevent gender bias and sexual discrimination.
 
The Aims of the NCCU Gender Equity Education Committee
I. To coordinate and integrate related resources of the different offices of NCCU to design and implement a gender equity education plan and review its practical performance.
II. To plan and organize gender equity education activities for faculty, staff, students, and their families.
III. To develop and promote gender equity education courses, teaching and performance review.
IV. To draft regulations for gender equity education, prevent incidents of sexual assault and sexual harassment on campus, establish a response system, and coordinate related resources.
V. To investigate and deal with issues about gender equity education as well as complaints about sexual harassment and employment gender equity.
VI. To plan and establish a secure campus of gender equity.
VII. To promote family and social education about gender equity in the community around NCCU.
VIII. Other issues about gender equity in NCCU or in the community.
